The facts about Africa
Madagascar is Africa’s largest island, located just off the continent’s east coast.
It is approximately 1,000 miles long and approximately 350 miles wide.
This island is also the world’s fourth largest.
The human race is of African origin. The oldest known skeletal remains of anatomically modern humans (or homo sapiens sapiens) were excavated at sites in East Africa. Human remains were discovered at Omo in Ethiopia that were dated at 195,000 years old, the oldest known in the world.
AFRICA IS THE WORLD’S SECOND-LARGEST CONTINENT.
Africa is the world’s second-largest continent, with a total area of approximately 11.73 million square miles (30.37 million square kilometers), accounting for 5.7% of the earth’s surface and 20% of the total land surface on our planet. North Africa, East Africa, Central Africa, Southern Africa, and West Africa are the five sub-sections. One of the most fascinating facts about Africa is that the continent’s length and breadth are roughly equal: Horizontal Width: 4,355 miles (7,009 km) from Dakar, Senegal, east to Mogadishu, Somalia, and Vertical Length: 4,504 miles (7,248 km) from Cape Town, South Africa, north to Tripoli, Libya.
Many wealthy West African families have extensive private library collections dating back hundreds of years. There are 3,450 handwritten mediaeval books in the Mauritanian cities of Chinguetti and Oudane. Another 6,000 books may still exist in the other city of Walata. Some are from the eighth century AD. In Niger, there are 11,000 books in private collections. Finally, approximately 700,000 books have survived in Timbuktu, Mali.

There are at least 3,000 distinct ethnic groups in Africa, and approximately 2,000 different languages are spoken, each with its own dialect. While Arabic is the most widely spoken language on the African continent, it is followed by English, Swahili, and French.

Mansa Musa, also known as Musa I of Mali, was one of history’s wealthiest men. Musa was the tenth emperor of Mali, one of the prosperous Sahelian kingdoms that arose along the Saharan slave trade routes in the late medieval period.
For the late 2000s, estimates for his net worth at the time of his death in 1937 range from US$300 billion to US$400 billion in adjusted dollars.

The African elephant is the world’s largest land animal, capable of weighing over six tons and measuring up to seven meters in length. The giraffe is the world’s tallest animal. Male giraffes can grow to be 6 meters tall, while females can grow to be 4 meters tall.
